Garrett Hall Primary School Timber bench and wood-carving workshops – September 2016
We met teachers from Garrett Hall Primary School at the Wigan Eco Conference in October 2015 and a few months later we were called to come to the school to discuss the possibility of a wooden bench in the playground. Ian delivered 3 different drawings to Stephanie Halliwell who was the lead for Art at the school and wanted to showcase a new bench and mosaic for an art week the school were planning. Stephanie decided to go for the horseshoe bench and she wanted the school values carved into the bench. We also offered a chance for the pupils to carve their new bench using wood-carving chisels and working with Ian. For the mosaic we commissioned Lara Norris from Glitterfish Productions who has experience doing mosaics with children. All the activities were risk assessed and we worked closely with the school to arrange installation dates for minimum disturbance to the school days. The project was a great success. We worked with all the school classes over 3 days carving the bench and making the mosaic. The school were very happy with their new bench and the mosaic of their school logo.
"The feedback from the children and teachers has been amazing. The children are so proud of their new bench and love it even more as they are a real part of it. The children loved being able to use wood tools and also to have the trust given by Ian to be able to use them. The bench is everything I dreamt of and more. Your professionalism, prompt communication, amazing ideas and creativity all blended in to help make our art week such a success. You worked so hard to be able to accommodate everything we wanted and within our budget. Everything was considered from health and safety, to DBS screening, to making it an amazing experience for our children. I would highly recommend 'One Green World' to any school, business etc. who would benefit from your amazing service. One again, thank you so much from me and all the staff and children at Garrett Hall Primary School"
